The One Mile Jetty Repair/Replacement Project is a multi-stage initiative to restore and preserve the iconic Carnarvon Jetty which was closed for being unsafe in 2017 and severely damaged by Tropical Cyclone Seroja in 2021.

Stage 1: Completed by the Department of Transport (DOT) in late 2021, this stage involved the deconstruction of the existing jetty built over water.

Stage 2: A joint delivery model between the Gascoyne Development Commission (GDC) and DOT will refurbish a portion of the jetty, supported by $4.5 million in state funding. The project currently aims to rebuild at least 200 metres of the original 1,600-metre structure, with designs that allow for future, efficient extensions to increase this length.

Carnarvon Heritage Precinct

The Carnarvon Heritage Group (CHG), a not-for-profit organisation holding the Jetty Licence and managing the Carnarvon Heritage Precinct, continues to partner with the GDC. Together, they are developing and funding complementary projects to enhance the precinct.

The project integrates engineering, environmental, heritage, cultural, and design considerations, with approvals largely complete or under final review. Its successful delivery will strengthen WA’s tourism resilience and diversity, while contributing to the broader economic base of the Gascoyne region.
