Ningaloo in the spotlight

The film showcases Exmouth, Ningaloo, and the wider Gascoyne coastline to national and international audiences.

The project has received major production investment from Screen Australia, Screenwest, Lotterywest and the WA Government through the Western Australian Regional Screen Fund (WARSF). The WARSF is a $24 million State Government initiative designed to attract film and television productions to regional WA, supporting economic activity, regional employment, and long-term tourism benefits. It has previously supported productions such as Kid Snow and Mystery Road: Origin, helping to highlight WA’s distinct landscapes and communities.

Through the WARSF, the Gascoyne Development Commission has played a key role in supporting Whale Shark Jack, providing on‑the‑ground assistance, local connections, and funding to help bring the film to life in the region. This involvement not only strengthens the local creative industries but also amplifies the Gascoyne’s profile as a world‑class filming destination.
