Preparing for the future...

This work gives the region an opportunity to strengthen long‑term drought preparedness through practical, community‑informed actions across agriculture and the industries that depend on it.

The vision for this Plan is to collaborate across the Gascoyne to build drought and climate resilience through practical processes, clear priorities, and measurable progress.

The Plan focuses on identifying risks, opportunities for innovation, and pathways for future investment. This effort supports the long‑term sustainability of the region’s horticulture, pastoral, fisheries, and tourism industries, which together contribute hundreds of millions of dollars to the regional economy each year and play a vital role in local employment.

By planning early and together, the Gascoyne can strengthen its ability to adapt, recover, and protect livelihoods through future dry seasons.

Through this project, the Commission is working toward a clear, practical, community‑endorsed roadmap that helps the Gascoyne stay productive, connected, and adaptable through dry times.

Following an extensive development phase, the draft Plan has now been submitted to CSIRO for independent review, and work on the implementation plan is underway. This stage involves significant engagement with industry, community groups, and local leaders to shape the priorities that will guide future action.
