Revitalising the town...

BCAC aim includes supporting the social cultural and economic development of its members and their families.

Community facilities include a remote community school, which provides for approximately 40 students ranging from pre-primary to high school level, a shop and petrol station that provides food security for community residents and visitors, a 25m swimming pool, a newly refurbished administration building, a nursing post and a police station.

The community, and surrounding land, is bordered by conservation estate, including the existing Mt Augustus National Park, and new land set out for inclusion in the conservation estate, after an agreement was reached between the WA Government and traditional owners in 2024.

The conservation estate is, and will continue to be, managed jointly with traditional owners.  Wajarri Yamaji Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC, in partnership with the WA Government, are supporting efforts to manage cultural sites, create job and economic opportunities for Traditional Owners, and to continuously improve conservation efforts.

BCAC has limited access to recurring funding to support its aims and objectives.

To address this challenge, the GDC started providing limited, and temporary administrative and executive assistance to support BCAC directors to hold regular meetings, in accordance with its rule book.

BCAC have identified strategic priorities for community and economic development and have worked with partners to advocate for those priorities. BCAC have also worked with partners to deliver several important projects

  • Renovation of the BCAC administration building (with Real Futures).
  • Refit, and commercial operating trial of the Burringurrah fuel station and shop.
  • Installation of community wifi, with funding from the WA and Australian Governments.
